A suburban hike from Kahlenberg down to Heiligenstadt following Beethoven’s footsteps.Making use of Vienna’s efficient and affordable public transportation we go up to Kahlenberg for the price of one ticket. Stunning vistas of Vienna, the Danube and the vineyards of Nussdorf and Grinzing.Discover where Beethoven spent his summers.En route we taste some of the local wines (optional). The tour ends at Heiligenstadt at the Beethoven House Heurigen (or similar). You may stay there and enjoy a typical vintners’ dinner (optional).

We meet at Heiligenstadt metro station (bus stop 38A) or at any metro stop along U4.

The Karl Marx Hof is an iconic example of Vienna’s 1920ies efforts to provide affordable public housing.

The bus takes us up to the edge of the Vienna Woods to Kahlenberg view-point. The panorama of the two Danubes and the whole City unfolds in front of you.
Descending down we pass a lost Biedermeier cemetery and where the forest ends the vineyards of Nussberg start.

Hidden in their vineyards the vintners serve young, fresh and crisp white wines in outdoor wine taverns.

“Beethovengang” was one of the master’s favorite hike in a, then mostly rural neighborhood. Suburban now we nevertheless discover here one of the memorials commemorating great Ludwig.

Via “Eroica-Gasse” we reach the “Pfarrplatz”, one of old Vienna’s most picturesque church squares. Nearby would be the house of the “Heiligenstädter Testament”. 1817 Beethoven spent the summer at the “Mayer am Pfarrplatz”, one of Vienna’s most picturesque old vintner’s cottages.

After discovering some hidden “Beethoven-Memorabilia” we open-end our tour here with another glass of “Guener Veltliner” or even with a typical meal from the hearty buffet.
From here the city center is easily reached by bus & metro or directly with the tramline “D”.
